Junko Furuta
THE MEANING OF THE TORTURE
Junko Furuta was a Japanese girl who got
murdered after being tortured by 4 boys for 40 days. The case was called "concrete-encased
high school girl murder case" because she was discovered in a concrete
drum.
The boys were often hanging out on one of their
house's second floor. They were called "chimpira" (young yakuza
or mafia boys) and previously committed crimes such as purse snatching,
extortion, and rape. On 25 November 1988, they were wandering around in the
streets for robbing and raping local women. That's when they saw Furuta. She
was riding her bike home after finishing a shift at her job. One of them kicked
her bike and ran away. After that, another one of them had offered help to her
by walking her safely to her house. She accepted his offer but she was being
led to a warehouse. He raped her in that warehouse and again in a nearby hotel.
She was threatened by saying he would kill her. From the hotel, he called his
other friends and bragged about the rape. One of them asked him to keep her
captive to all of them to rape her. The group had previously gang-raped a girl
but was released afterward.
Around 3:00 a.m., he took her to a nearby park,
where the rest of his friends were waiting. They learned her address from her
notebook and told her that they knew where she lived and if she tries to escape
their yakuza members would kill her family. The boys took her to a house and
gang-raped her. The house was owned by the one who offered his help to her and
they started to hang out at this house where they kept her captive. |

On 27 November, Furuta's parents connected the
police about her disappearance. The gang called Furuta's mother and forced her
to tell her that she escaped but was safe in a friend's house. They also forced
her to stop the police investigation. When the one that owner of the house's
parents came, they made her look like she was his girlfriend. The group held
her captive for 40 days. They repeatedly beat, raped, and tortured her.
According to them, they shaved her pubic hair, forced her to dance to music
while naked and masturbate in front of them, and left her on the balcony with a
little clothing. They inserted objects in her vagina and anus, including a lit
match, a metal rod, and a bottle. They fed her with large amounts of alcohol,
milk, and water. She was also forced to smoke multiple smokes at once and
inhale paint thinner. Once they repeatedly burned her lays and arms with
lighter fluid. At the end of December, she was already
severely malnourished after being fed only small amounts and only milk.
Because of her severe injuries and infected burns, she became unable to go the
downstairs for toilet and became confined to the floor of his room in a state
of extreme weakness. Furuta's face was so swollen that it was difficult to
recognize her appearance. The boys lost sexual interest in her because of her
crippled body and rotting smell. As a result, they kidnapped and gang-raped
another woman (19) who was on her way home.
On 4 January 1989 after losing mahjong (Chinese
game), one of them decided to vent his anger on Furuta. They kicked and punched
her, lit a candle and dripped hot wax on her face, placed 2 short candles on
her eyelids, and forced her to drink her own urine. After kicking her she fell
onto a stereo unit and collapsed. Since she was bleeding continuously and
pus was emerging from her infected burns, the boys covered their hands in
plastic bags, so that the pus won't get over them. They continued her beating
and dropped a metal exercise ball on her stomach several times. They poured
lighter fluid all over her and set her on fire once again. First, she tried to
stop the fire but after some time she became unresponsive. The attacks lasted 2
hours. And she eventually died.
The group wrapped her body in blankets and
shoved her into a traveling bag. After that, they put her body in a 208-liter
drum and filled it with wet concrete. Then they eventually disposed of the drum
into a cement trunk. On 23 January 2 of them were arrested for gang-rape
of the 19-year-old girl that they kidnapped in December. On 29 March 2 police
officers came and found women's underwear in their house. During the
interrogation, the one who offered help in Furuta before they kidnapped her,
believed that one of the officers knew about her. Thinking that another one of
them confessed the crime and told the police where her body is. However, the
police were puzzled by the confession because they have been referring to another
case that involves the murder of a different woman and her 7-year-old son (the
case remains unsolved).
